Richmond County, Georgia Jail Roster is a public resource that allows you to find out who is currently in custody at the county jail. RichmondCourt.us helps locate publicly available information about current and recent inmates. Additionally, information can be obtained through the official website of the Richmond County Sheriff, by calling the jail, or visiting it in person. A search in the roster allows you to check a person's custody status, arrest date, and charges. The roster is maintained by the Richmond County Sheriff's Office; it is hosted on the Inmate Inquiry online portal and is updated as new bookings are processed.
Search Current Inmates in Richmond Jail
To find an inmate, use one of three methods.
Online Search
- Go to the Richmond County Inmate Inquiry page.
- Enter the last name in the appropriate field. Add the first name if necessary.
- Click "Search." The system will return a list of individuals matching the criteria.
- If you do not know the exact spelling of the last name, try entering just the first few letters — the portal may display all matches.
You will need the person's full legal name for the search. If there is a booking number, it can also help refine the results. The page shows recent bookings with information about race, gender, age, and arrest date.
You can also search for court cases through the Case Management Search system on the Augusta-Richmond County website or through the RichmondCourt.us portal.
Juvenile offenders are not displayed in the public roster.
By Phone
Call the Richmond County Jail and provide the full name of the person you are looking for. The operator will check if they are in custody.
In Person
Visit the Richmond County Correctional Institution. There is an information window in the lobby where staff can provide information about current inmates.

Find Richmond Jail Booking Records Online
When a person is brought to the Richmond County Jail, a booking record is created. This record marks the moment when the person is officially taken into custody.
During processing, the following data is recorded:
- Booking number
- Booking date and time
- Charges filed
- Arresting agency (e.g., Augusta Police or Sheriff)
- Basic identification data of the detainee — name, date of birth, gender, race
These records are available through the Sheriff's Inmate Inquiry portal. The portal shows information about individuals currently in custody or recently booked.
If you need documents not available in the online roster — such as arrest reports or accident reports — submit a request through the Open Records Requests portal of Augusta-Richmond County. A separate procedure applies for records from the Richmond County Sheriff's Office, as described on the same page. Requests are governed by the Georgia Open Records Act (O.C.G.A. § 50-18-70 and following).
If the person has already been transferred to a state facility, they can be found through the Georgia Department of Corrections Offender Query.
Search the Richmond Jail Roster by Last Name or Booking Number
The Sheriff's Inmate Inquiry portal offers two main search methods.
Search by Last Name
Enter the person's last name in the "Last Name" field. This is a required field. The first name is optional but significantly narrows the results, especially for common last names like Smith or Williams.
Some tips:
- Check the spelling. One incorrect letter, and the system will not find the desired record.
- If the exact spelling is unknown, enter only the first three or four letters of the last name.
- Hyphens and apostrophes in last names are sometimes processed differently — try variations with and without them.
Search by Booking Number
If you know the booking number, this is the most accurate way to find a specific record. The booking number is unique for each detention case.
If the Search Yields No Results
The absence of results does not always mean that the person was not arrested. Possible reasons:
- The person has already been released or transferred to another facility.
- The booking is not yet completed — processing may take several hours after delivery.
- The name was entered incorrectly, or the person was booked under a different name variant.
In such cases, call the jail directly or check the E-Access to Court Records portal of the state of Georgia, where Richmond Superior Court cases can be found.
Jail Roster Updates and Search Limitations in Richmond
The inmate roster is updated throughout the business day as new bookings are processed. This is not an instantaneous process: it usually takes several hours to half a day between the actual arrest and the appearance of the record in the online system. Delays are longer on weekends and holidays.
Main limitations to be aware of:
- Only current inmates. The roster displays individuals currently in custody or recent bookings. It is not an archive of all arrests from past years.
- Records disappear after release. When a person is released on bail, by court order, or after serving their term, their record is usually removed from the public roster.
- Data entry delays. Jail staff manually enter information, so errors and delays occur.
- Not all data is public. Medical information, juvenile records, and some investigation details are not displayed.
To obtain archival records or documents not available in the online roster, submit an official request through the Augusta open records portal. The sheriff is the custodian of jail records, so requests for arrest and booking reports should be addressed to the Richmond County Sheriff's Office.
